The eighth sale of the season, held on 6 November, saw a continuation of the price softening seen in the previous sales. Whilst there was good demand for the Hill/Mountain grades, very selective bidding for the fine and medium types led to a clearance of just below 50%.
The British Wool index was down 2.1% sale on sale at £1.531 clean. The total weight offered was 1.475m kg, with the total weight sold 0.735m kg, resulting in a clearance of 49.8%. The average clean price was 141.2p, and the average greasy price 91.5p.
The average prices for key wool types were as follows: Fine: up to 3% cheaper. Medium: up to 3.5% cheaper. Mule: 4% cheaper. Cheviot: 3% cheaper. Radnor: 3.5% cheaper. Swaledale: 2% cheaper. Welsh: up to 2.5% dearer. Blackface: fully firm except Cotts which were 3% cheaper.
