For the second consecutive year, South Africa-based Sappi was selected for an Avery Dennison Supplier Distinction Award.

The prize is honouring the paper manufacturer’s sustainable conduct, it’s high-quality products and being a real global supplier, says the awarding authority.

Sappi’s global packaging and speciality papers business is understood to support eight Avery Dennison plants worldwide with numerous products from multiple facilities.

“We were recognised for our excellent quality and for being a truly global supplier supporting Avery Dennison’s growth, especially in the US,” says Thomas Kratochwill, vice president sales and marketing packaging speciality papers, Sappi Europe. “And finally, because of our expanded portfolio following the acquisition of Cham Paper Group.”

All the award-winning companies, including Sappi, stood out in four key areas: sustainability, quality, service and growth. This award is not only extremely relevant for the winners, but also for Avery Dennison itself. Garrett Gabel, vice president, global finance and procurement, label and graphic materials, said: “This is our opportunity to celebrate suppliers from around the world that meet or exceed our standards for customer satisfaction and performance. Thanks to their dedication to the values highlighted in this programme, we are able to continue to collaborate, innovate and ultimately grow with our customers.”

It has been a busy a fruitful month for Sappi who, in early April, also announced the expansion of its portfolio of dye-sublimation papers with the launch of the Transjet Drive.

The new sublimation paper is specifically designed for glue-belt printers but is also suitable for high-speed printers without a glue-belt system.

Sappi’s Transjet Drive sublimation paper offers properties suited for the fashion and home textile industries – particularly scarves, bed linen and curtains – because of a special coating on its surface that promotes colour-intensity and fast-drying ink. This fast-drying quality allows webs to be rolled up immediately after printing.

On its specially-treated reverse side, the product is able to adhere to the printing belt without slipping and can pass through quickly. The smooth reverse side also ensures that the paper does not stick to the adhesive-belt and that it slides away without leaving residue on the belt. This ‘special property’ protects the glue-belt and saves work steps such as cleaning or corrections during production, the company says.

Sappi adds that the sublimation paper can improve printing performance and, due to its low grammages of 45g and 55g/sqm, offers weight per unit area advantages.

“Every tonne of Transjet Drive gives you more printable paper area compared to heavier grammages,” the company says.

According to Sappi, all Transjet sublimation papers offer optimum cost efficiency, uniform reliability and consistent ink transfer with minimal ink consumption.

“They are PE-free, contain 100% recyclable pulp and are manufactured in FSC quality,” the company says.

At the FESPA Global Print Expo in Munich, which will be held between 14 and 17 May, all Sappi customers and interested parties will have an opportunity to familiarise themselves with Transjet Drive and other Sappi products at Stand B6-B30.
