Rockline Industries, a leading manufacturer in coffee filters and wet wipes, has published its 10th Annual Sustainability Report.
The report highlights progress in energy consumption and waste reduction, moving the company closer to achieving its environmental sustainability goals for 2020.
Rockline Industries made a long-term commitment 10 years ago to using the most sustainable materials and business practices available.
“Over the last ten years, I have been continually inspired by the commitment of our associates to achieve and exceed our sustainability goals,” says Randy Rudolph, president of Rockline Industries.
“Our progress in this area is due to their daily hard work to ensure that every area of our company is using best practices that help our environment and the world we all live in.”
The 2018 report highlights a 6% reduction in energy usage and a 5% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions per standard unit through manufacturing efficiencies.
What’s more, the company has reduced the amount of waste water by 20% and its total solid waste of coffee filters by 27%, although the total solid waste of wet wipes increased by 15%.
Transportation for the company was down by 12%, but Rockline still needs to work on reducing its landfill diversion rate. Currently, the company reports that only a small proportion of waste is recycled due to limited opportunities and that it needs to find consumers who may have a use for the waste.
Rockline’s sustainability approach is guided by three primary long-term aspirations: achieving fossil fuel independence through a shift toward clean low-carbon energy, minimising waste and its impact on the environment, and developing ecologically intelligent products that are sustainable.
“Looking ahead to 2020, we are focused on increasing landfill diversion rates, and developing programmes that foster a circular model for product and packaging life cycles,” says Dustin Davis, corporate sustainability programme manager at Rockline Industries.
“We have also committed to sourcing pulp-based raw materials from sustainable sources in support of Rockline’s goal to achieve net zero deforestation.”
