The penultimate winter sale of the 2018 mohair season took place on 20 November with a relatively small offering of 70,417 kg.
Despite the stronger SA currency, the market indicator gained 1.5% from the previous sale, to close on R290.47 p/kg. Although the clearance on the sale was only 86%, nearly all unsold lots were sold after the sale.
The offering consisted of some excellent individual clips, with a highest price of R484.10 p/kg paid for a bale of good style 25 micron kid mohair.
Competition was once again good on the auction floor, with better quality kids and young goats receiving more attention from some of the buyers, with both these sectors gaining 3% on the day.
Compared to the previous sale, prices were as follows: Kids (winter) up 3%. Young Goats (winter) up 3%. Fine Adults up 1.5%. Strong Adults unchanged. Average up 1.5%.
