Klopman displayed its progress in the pursuit of sustainability and maximum protection against pesticides at Expoprotection 2018, which was held on 6-8 November in Paris.
Expoprotection is one of the most important events dedicated to risk prevention and management at work, so it’s the ideal platform for companies such as Klopman to reveal important innovations.
Klopman showcased two innovations at the show – the greenwear range, produced with recycled polyester and sustainable cotton, and three fabrics (New Arena, Indestructible Hydrofoil and Superbandmaster Hydrofoil) specifically developed to protect the wearer from contact with pesticides used in agriculture.
These fabrics are compliant to the norm ISO 27065, which was recently updated with important contributions from Klopman.
The Greenwear range
Klopman’s Greenwear range is based on environmentally and people-friendly raw materials – polyester fibre made from recycled plastic or wood pulp, cotton certified according to Fairtrade standards and the BCI (Better Cotton Initiative), which take into account the conditions of producers in developing countries, and organic cotton which is cultivated in the absence of chemicals.
This is a very important consideration, since cotton uses 2.5% of the cultivated land in the world but consumes 16% of pesticides. Using environmentally-friendly polyester means revitalising a plastic bottle that would otherwise take 1,000 years to biodegrade, meaning that it saves 45% on energy, 20% on water and 30% on greenhouse gas emissions compared to virgin polyester.
The fabrics available in recycled polyester are Concept, Superbandmaster, Indestructible and Dynamite, while Spotlight is produced with a combination of recycled polyester and BCI cotton, Charlotte is a blend of recycled polyester and organic cotton, and Showstar is a fabric made with 100% Fairtrade certified cotton.
Fabrics to protect farmers
The agricultural sector in Europe employs almost nine million people and only 12% of these, according to reliable studies, are fully protected from the risks of using pesticides.
Klopman has therefore developed a specific fabric range to fulfil farmers’ needs of protection, comfort and durability, and to be one of the few products compliant with the recent ISO 27065 norm.
The levels establish the type of risk to which the worker is exposed. Level 1 protection is met by New Arena, a blend of 60% cotton and 40% polyester, while level 2 is satisfied by Indestructible Hydrofoil and Superbandmaster Hydrofoil, both composed of 65% polyester and 35% cotton with Hydrofoil finish, an exclusive Klopman formulation. The Hydrofoil finish has excellent durability and can withstand repeated high-temperature industrial laundering at an unrivalled level on the market, according to Klopman.
Electrostatic discharge protection
The uncontrolled release of static accumulations represents a potential risk in many industries, particularly those in which combustible materials, gases and powders are present. It is also dangerous for the safe assembly of electronic parts in sterile environments and for the operation and maintenance of electronic control equipment and devices.
One of the most serious risks comes from the human body, which is capable of generating up to 40,000 volts of static electricity.
The Klopman fabrics on display at Expoprotection, in particular Concept ESD, Telestat PLUS, Superbandmaster ESD and Indestructible ESD, represent the best solution for safeguarding electronic components against electrostatic discharges during their assembly and to meet the industry’s toughest requirements for certification and safety, being compliant to European standards EN 1149-1, EN 1149-3, IEC 61340-4-9 and IEC 61340-5-1, according to the company.

Indigostar
Klopman also displayed Indigostar at the exhibition, the new collection of poly-cotton mechanical stretch fabrics with a denim look, designed to offer the wearer ‘superb comfort and excellent freedom of movement’.
Indigostar also ensures maximum colour consistency in response to the most stringent industrial laundries’ requirements in terms of durability, the company adds.
