Impres, an Italian leather processing company, has purchased an Epson Monna Lisa Evo Tre machine alongside the use of its GENESTA Acid inks.

According to the company, it opted for Epson’s technologies to “obtain a natural effect on non-pigmented leather such as nubuck, suede and full-grain leather”.

The Monna Lisa Evo Tre 32 is a 16-channel printer that ‘combines quality, accuracy and speed’, while Epson’s GENESTA Acid inks, which are ECO PASSPORT certified to meet “globally recognised standards for environmentally friendly textile printing”, are a bluesign approved solution.

Silvano Impastato, director at Impres, suggests the investment in Epson’s technology was an easy decision.

“Epson, partnered by Fratelli Robustelli, was one of the first companies to gain direct experience of leather printing. From the onset we realised that Monna Lisa would meet all our requirements, considering its user-friendly settings and management, combined with solid structure.”

On average, Impres processes 100,000 sqm of leather per month – 10,000 of which are digitally printed.

Digital printing therefore accounts for 10-25% of Impres’s overall production and achieves around 50% of its turnover, the company says.

The investment is said to help Impress continue to offer “high-quality processed products at attractive prices” while tailoring its production processes towards meeting more client requirements.

Impastato concludes: “Monna Lisa has undoubtedly been the best choice for us, and the early production has not disappointed expectations. Considering the extremely positive experience, we are already evaluating to have a second Monna Lisa textile digital printer in order to ensure high-yield continuous production.”

Epson is currently exhibiting at WTiN’s Innovate Textile & Apparel virtual trade show and is featuring its Monna Lisa printers and its GENESTA inks at its virtual booth.

“The Innovate Textile & Apparel virtual trade show is the first virtual fair we have taken part in,” said Paolo Crespi, DTF sales & marketing director at Epson Group. “At a time when physical events with professionals in the sector have been suspended, our presence is important for reaffirming what is essential for us: that technological innovation in this sector never stops.”
