The global printing industry continues to evolve and the digital textile printing sector is no exception. Therefore, for both OEMs and textile manufacturers, the upcoming SGIA Expo – which takes place on 18-20 October at the Las Vegas Convention Centre – will help companies plan ahead and secure their futures in the US digital textile printing, which is an increasingly competitive industry, according to show organisers.

Visitor numbers are expected to be high at SGIA 2018, hence why it is a key show for so many global OEMs

“Every day we see new innovations that are changing the way we do things in printing, and the SGIA Expo brings the industry together to prepare for what's on the horizon,” says Ford Bowers, president and CEO, Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA).

Organisers state that a robust educational programme, coupled with networking opportunities, will give attendees insight into the latest trends and innovations in printing, and the expansive show floor will show them in action.

The show floor will be wall-to-wall with the latest machinery, applications and consumables, created by experts who are responding to change with cutting-edge innovations, continue organisers.

"We’ve filled over 273,000 net sqft of booth space with more than 550 exhibitors,” says Lexy Olisko, vice president of expositions, SGIA. “The 2018 SGIA Expo will be buzzing with excitement.”

Visitors arrive at the 2017 SGIA Expo in Las Vegas

Leading names in the digital textile printing industry will be present at the popular Nevada-based expo, all of whom are looking to benefit from the expansion of the US digital textile printing industry. View our A-Z guide of digital textile exhibitors to find out who and what is being showcased.

Visitors walking the show floor are, according to organisers, guaranteed to witness innovative technologies in action. Exhibitors will also be on hand to explain how these technologies can specifically help their businesses.

Increasingly, due to the influence of digital innovation, the US – like many Western economies – is enjoying a reshoring movement. Digital textile printing, for example, often requires no minimums, increases production speed and enables customisation: a key trend to have emerged following the roll-out of digital textile printing solutions – specifically direct-to-garment technology. And, with fewer staff required to operate machinery and the fast fashion trend compelling companies to manufacture goods closer to the end consumer, in order to maximise turnaround times, means that reshoring production back to the West has become a more viable option for many textile manufacturers.

Consequently, specific to the development of digital textile printing, both globally and in the US, there will be a series of sessions throughout the three-day event: Michael Sanders, Top Value Fabrics; Hitoshi Ujiie, Thomas Jefferson University; and Steve Urmano, InfoTrends Keypoint Intelligence; Randy Anderson, Mutoh America; Brian Hite, Image Options; Tommy Martin, Mimaki USA; and Ken Bach, Aberdeen Fabrics, will take part in the Digital Textile Committee Panel: Where are We with Digital Textile Today?

Elsewhere, WTiN’s digital innovation analyst, Mutlu Chaouch Orozco and Digital Textile magazine editor, Tansy Fall will offer their expertise during Markets and Motivators: Digital Textile Printing and the Smart Factory. Following them will be a presentation by MCT Digital’s Sean Lawrence, entitled: The Need for Automated Finishing for Digitally-Printed Textiles.

Currently, the US market is strong. Last year, the US digital textile printing industry enjoyed a 22% uplift in output capacity and reached 125 million sqm annual capacity, according to WTiN Intelligence: Digital Textile. These figures, when taking into account the 6% rise in digital textile print installations, means that US textile manufacturers are implementing super-wide, high-end machines. The growth of soft signage applications is a major factor in why manufacturers have implemented digital solutions in the US.

However, 2018 will be the last year for SGIA as we know it. The popular exhibition will be rebranded and become PRINTING United from 2019 following a partnership between SGIA and NAPCO Media. As the printing industry evolves and market boundaries blur, PRINTING United will offer attendees a comprehensive look at new technologies and ideas that would allow their business to respond to the changes that are shaping printing. The newly-named exhibition, organisers say, will feature a dynamic show floor, education, programming and services that will bring printers from every segment under one roof in Dallas, Texas on 23-25 October 2019.
