Carrington Textiles, one of Europe’s largest workwear suppliers, is set to launch its first flame-retardant stretch fabric – Flameflex 275.

Flameflex 275 has been shortlisted for 'Best Innovation: Protective Textiles' at this year's Future Textile Awards
This is a market first for Carrington who continues to explore new ways to improve worker wellbeing. Flameflex 275 will provide workers who require comfortable and aesthetically pleasing clothing with an extra layer of protection.
“We are constantly in discussions with garment manufacturers about where the demand for certain fabric properties lies,” says Jonathan McKendry, export sales and marketing manager at Carrington Textiles.
“As a result, we have delivered Flameflex 275 - a three-in-one fabric which harnesses stretch, flame retardancy and durability following industrial laundering.”
The innovative fabric brings together the properties of Carrington’s stretch and flame-retardant ranges and will officially launch at the Expoprotection Show in Paris, running from the 6-8 November 2018.
This fabric has already been shortlisted for ‘Best Innovation: Protective Textiles’ at this year’s Future Textile Awards. Launched in 2014 by the World Textile Information Network, the awards aim to recognise success in textile innovation and honours the essential work of the many businesses that support the industry.
Flameflex 275 has been developed to ensure ease of movement for the worker, whilst simultaneously providing superior protection to meet a variety of norms. Through incorporating flame-retardant qualities with elasticated stretch, Flameflex 275 meets the demands for a protective workwear that moves away from rigid, blocky silhouettes.
The use of elastolefin fibres in the material allows for the inclusion of polyester in a previously cotton-based fabric. This increases the strength and abrasion resistance of the fabric, as well as ensuring a long lifecycle, despite continuous dyeing and industrial laundering at temperatures of up to 75 degrees.
Flameflex 275 meets EN11611, 11612 and 14116 accreditations. It will initially be available in black, navy, graphite, red, and hi-vis yellow. Weighing 275gsm, Flameflex 275 is mid-weight and ideal for those working in hot and humid conditions who need to avoid heavy-weight fabric.
Carrington supplies workwear to over 80 different countries, all of which have different industries and working environments. To meet these demands in an innovative way, Carrington operates continuous research and development, and constantly strives to produce workwear which puts worker wellbeing front and centre.
